Vancouver Fishing Report – April 5th, 2015

The weather has been crazy over the past couple of weeks but luckily it hasn’t affected the fishing too much. We have seen some nice sturgeon the past week and it should get better as spring rolls on. Salmon fishing continues to provide some big fish in the 15-20 pound range. It has been a great season so far and we are looking forward to the different fisheries that Vancouver has to offer throughout the summer and fall.

Sturgeon Fishing

We have been on the water a few times over the past couple of weeks and despite the dirty water we are pleased to report that the sturgeon fishing has been good. We are hooking 3-10 fish on our half day charters and these fish have been in the 3-5 foot range with a few in the 6’ range. We have been having most of our success on eulachon and lamprey. Spring is a great time of year to go sturgeon fishing so give us a call to discuss options to get you on the water.

Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing has been quite good over the last couple of weeks. We have been spending most of our time in Howe Sound and we should see the South end of Bowen Island start to pick up any day now.   We have moved away from spoons and switched over to bait. We are hooking 3-12 fish on a full day trip and we continue to see some larger fish being brought back to the dock. The spring and early summer fishery seems like it is always changing so come by the office to get all of your gear.

Vancouver Fishing Report – May 6, 2014

Our local report:

Sturgeon fishing

The sturgeon fishing has been consistent over the last 10 days, the river is rising but we have been doing well when we we plan our departures around the tides.  With the lower than normal snow pack we should see some good opportunities for sturgeon over the next couple months through the spring melt…

Fishing is pretty consistent with 4-8 hookups in a half day trip. We are getting bites on both roe, lamprey and eulachons.  With the water warming and the river being dirty every bit of scent helps these dinosaurs sniff out a meal.

Salmon fishing

May is an exciting month as there is good numbers of fish locally and over on the Gulf Islands.  As we progress into May, we recommend full day trips to the Gulf Islands.  We were there on the weekend and had good success when the weather cooperated.  Fish ranging from 80-180ft being caught on anchovies and spoons. We are running the Gibbs Delta Guide Series flashers because they’ve worked very well for us (UV Lemon Line, STS and Bon Chovy).  A couple of spoons we never leave the slip without are Irish cream, homeland security, cop car and the kitchen sink.

Fly fishing

With the high temperatures late last week, we saw many rivers rise and blow out. This time of year your options are very limited with most rivers running high and dirty.
