Vancouver Fishing Report – September 9th, 2015

We have had a great summer season and it’s almost over. With fall around the corner we can expect things to get wet…very wet. We have seen the best salmon fishing in recent years and some big sturgeon in the lower Fraser River. This trend should continue and we should make for a very exciting fall season on the water.

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing had been great this summer and we should continue to see some great fishing until November. It has been very consistent and are seeing quite a few big fish in the 8’ range. The fall brings some of the best fishing all year as these fish are heavily feeding for the cold winter ahead. With salmon in the river your go to baits should be salmon parts and roe but sometimes mixing it up with lamprey can be the ticket. We are hooking 4-12 fish on our half day trips with the average fish being in the 3-5’ range but we are seeing good numbers of fish in the 6-8’ range. Give us a call or email to discuss your options to get you out on the water.

Salmon Fishing

Overall salmon fishing has been excellent this summer and we are still seeing lots of red’s coming through. This should change here any day now as we transition into the white spring fisheries of the Fraser and Capliano River. These fish tend to be the biggest of the year, so now if a great opportunity to try your luck for a tyee. The Capilano mouth, bell buoy, t-10 and sandheads have all had their days and this should continue for the next 4-5 weeks. This time of year it’s tough to go wrong with bait, anchovies and herring are a solid bet behind a Gibbs Delta Guide Series Flasher. We are hooking 3-7 fish on our half day trips. Come by our office on Granville Island for up to date reports and all of your gear for the season.

Vancouver Fishing Report – May 22nd, 2015

We have had a good week on the water, great weather and the fish were cooperation.  With these warm temps we have seen the beginning of the freshet.  With the lower snow pack this year it will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next month or so.

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing has been good in the lower section of the Fraser. We are now starting to see a lot of debris floating downstream so keep an eye out in front of you. Try to position the boat out of the main flow to keep your path clear and lines in the water. With the dirtier water we are adding lots of scent to all of our baits. We always keep a couple on board and mix things up to see what works on any given day. We are hooking 3-10 fish on our half day trips which average 3-5 feet with some bigger fish brought to the boat. We have been getting most of our bites on eulachon but roe and lamprey have also put fish in the boat. Give us a call to discuss your options to get you on the water.

Salmon fishing

Salmon Fishing has been kind of sporadic everywhere this week. The Hump fishery tends to slow down towards the end of May and this is exactly what’s happening right now. This week the Gulf Islands saw some big tides and whales which lead to some mixed days of fishing. This is the place to be over the next month or so. We are fishing deep in the 120-220 feet range and using mostly spoons and hootchies. When fishing gets slow we like to throw on some bait to switch things up. We are hooking 5-12 fish on our full day trips. Come by our office on Granville Island for all of your salmon gear for the season.

Vancouver Fishing Report – April 30th, 2015

It has been a unique year with the warm winter and low snow pack. It will be interesting to see how it plays out during the freshet and into the summer. But in the mean time we have some good weather and fishing to be enjoyed by all.

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing has been decent over the past week. We are seeing some higher water levels with all of the rain but that hasn’t affected the bite too much. We are hooking an average of 3-8 fish on our half day trips. These fish are in the 4-5 foot range and with a few big boys in the area. We have been getting most of our bites on eulachon but we always like to mix things up with some roe and lamprey. We have plenty of options to get you on the water. Give us a call or email us to discuss getting you on the water.

Salmon Fishing

We have seen some good salmon fishing over the past couple of weeks. We are spending most of our time at the south end of Bowen and at the hump. We are getting most of our bites in the 100 to 140 foot range but can be quite scattered at times. We are running mostly bait and spoons as is typical for this time of year. The hump should continue to be productive until mid-late May when we switch focus to our longer trips in the Gulf Islands. Come by our shop on Granville lsland for all of your salmon gear and up to date reports.

Vancouver Fishing Report – April 21st, 2015

We have been spoiled with the weather over the past week, it feels like its summer and the fish are sure acting like it is. Sturgeon fishing continues to be productive with a couple of big fish being brought to the shore. Salmon fishing remains good and we are getting excited about the Gulf Island fishery.

Sturgeon Fishing

Typically spring fishing for sturgeon is good but this year it seems that the weather is a month in advance. We are already experiencing the freshet and we have been seeing higher day time temperatures than normal for this time of year. We have been getting most of our fish on eulachon, lamprey and roe. We have been hooking around 4-10 fish on our half day charters and these fish are averaging 3-4 feet in length with a couple of bigger fish in the mix. We are located only 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver and makes for a good day out with some buddies.

We have been running mostly bait as these fish we are catching are full of herring. We are averaging 3-12 bites on our full day charters and these fish can range from 10-25 pounds. Vancouver Fishing Report – April 12th, 2015

It’s a great time of year for fishing…especially this year. We are seeing some good sturgeon fishing and there’s salmon in our local waters. The weather has been quite pleasant and it looks like we will get some rain next week. The best thing is you don’t need to go very far to find some productive fishing. We have boats within 5 minutes from downtown Vancouver and plenty of options to get you on the water.

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing is off to a good start this year. We have been on the water a couple of times this week and boated a few nice fish in the 5-6 foot range. With the Fraser being dirty we are adding lots of scent to all of our baits. We have been running mostly lamprey and eulachon but when the fishing gets slow we like to get some roe on bottom. We are averaging 3-10 bites on our half day charters and this should continue to get better as it gets warmer. Give us a call to discuss your options to get you on the water.

Vancouver Fishing Report – April 5th, 2015

The weather has been crazy over the past couple of weeks but luckily it hasn’t affected the fishing too much. We have seen some nice sturgeon the past week and it should get better as spring rolls on. Salmon fishing continues to provide some big fish in the 15-20 pound range. It has been a great season so far and we are looking forward to the different fisheries that Vancouver has to offer throughout the summer and fall.

Sturgeon Fishing

We have been on the water a few times over the past couple of weeks and despite the dirty water we are pleased to report that the sturgeon fishing has been good. We are hooking 3-10 fish on our half day charters and these fish have been in the 3-5 foot range with a few in the 6’ range. We have been having most of our success on eulachon and lamprey. Spring is a great time of year to go sturgeon fishing so give us a call to discuss options to get you on the water.

Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing has been quite good over the last couple of weeks. We have been spending most of our time in Howe Sound and we should see the South end of Bowen Island start to pick up any day now.   We have moved away from spoons and switched over to bait. We are hooking 3-12 fish on a full day trip and we continue to see some larger fish being brought back to the dock. The spring and early summer fishery seems like it is always changing so come by the office to get all of your gear.

Vancouver Fishing Report – March 21st, 2015

It has been fairly dry for the past few weeks so it’s nice to see some much needed rain. This weather has made for some good fishing and great fishing conditions. Sturgeon fishing has been fairly good all winter and with the warmer temps we are looking at, some good fishing for the next couple of months. We have had a great winter season for springs and are hoping it continues into our spring/summer months.

Sturgeon Fishing

It’s an exciting time of year for sturgeon fishing as the winter is done and we can expect fishing to heat up. The warmer temperatures and the migration of eulachon up the Fraser will make for some good fishing for sturgeon in the lower river. Right now we are hooking 3-10 fish on our half days charters. These fish are 3-5 feet in length with a few fish in the 6 foot range. Now is the time of year when eulachons really shine, however we always have lamprey and roe on board. Our sturgeon boat is located at Shelter island Marina which is only 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Give us a shout to discuss your options to get you on the water.

Salmon Fishing

Overall we had a great winter spring fishery and all signs are pointing to a good spring and summer. We are spending our full day trips in the Gulf Islands and Howe Sound and our half day trips in local waters. It’s nice to see some bigger fish in the mid teen’s coming back to the docks. Crabbing has remained quite good and we should see this continue until May or June. Come by our office on Granville Island for up to date fishing reports and check out our tackle shop.

Vancouver Fishing Report – February 15th

This weather continues to cooperate and it feels like we skipped right over winter. It looks like it should continue for the weeks to come. It looks like these warm conditions have been favourable for sturgeon fishing as they are still quite active and moving around. It has been a productive couple of weeks on the Fraser River and in ocean for our winter Chinook fishery.

Sturgeon Fishing has remained good with fish ranging from 3-5 feet long, with the occasional 6+ footer in the mix. Normally during the winter you want to downsize your presentation and baits but this isn’t a normal winter. We are having our best luck with roe and lamprey. Our sturgeon boat is located only 30 minutes from Vancouver and is quite a unique fishery. Give us a shout to discuss your options during this mild winter.

Winter Chinook fishing has been pretty good over the past couple of weeks. On our longer days we have been going over to the Gulf Islands and up into Howe Sound. We have had some very good days with 10-20 bites. On our shorter days we are fishing in the harbor, West Vancouver and Howe Sound. We have plenty of options to get you out on the water for this time of year. Send us an email or come by our office to get up to date information on our winter chinook fishery.

Vancouver Fishing Report – September 28th, 2014

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing has remained very good and this should continue until the water temps drop in November/December. These fish are very aggressive and feeding on all of the dead salmon carcasses floating down the river. We have been using mostly salmon parts, i.e. bellies, gills, hearts, roe, etc. as this is a main part of their diet this time of year. On average we are getting 6-15 bites an outing with an average length of sturgeon being 4-7 feet in length. This can be a very consistent fishery this time of year and is recommended for everyone. Give us a shout to talk about our fall sturgeon options and outtings.

Such a unique fishery!

Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing has been quite productive for chinook and coho off the mouth of the Capilano, in the Harbour and off of the Fraser Mouth. We have had some great days where we had double digits of fish mixed with some slower days with a few bites. With the rain we just got over the past few days some of these fish have pushed into the river. But we have seen some new, fresh fish take their place. This fishery should continue to produce fish into mid October

Vancouver Fishing Report – September 12th, 2014

Sturgeon Fishing

The mornings are starting to get cooler and there is a lot of salmon in the river which can only mean one thing….Fall is around the corner. This is one of our favorite seasons to be fishing the Fraser for sturgeon because they are feeding aggressively trying to pack on the pounds for winter. Their main diet for the fall months is salmon carcasses, so keep your gills, bellies and roe because they are gold. We have been busy over the last couple weeks and the fishing has not disappointed. We are hooking 6-15 fish an outing and averaging 4-7 feet in length. We should see this great action continue until we start to see some cooler water temperatures into November and December. Give us a shout to talk about your options for a sturgeon charter.

Salmon Fishing

We are coming towards the end of the Sockeye season but the fishing is still quite good. These later fish tend to stage at the mouth better and can create some very larger schools. So even though you may have a school underneath you that isn’t biting very well, they’re should be another school close by that is. Once sockeye season closes we can focus all of our attention chasing these big chinooks off the mouth of the Fraser and in the harbor. Herring, anchovies and glow hootchies are a must when targeting these fish. We should have some pretty good fishing into mid October for chinook and coho so come by the office to grab all of your chinook gear.
